The Baptist Health System has been providing compassionate care and service to Bexar County, TX for over a century. Located at the northern apex of the diamond-shaped area that was the original cattle kingdom of Texas, Bexar County has a long history of being an important center for the livestock industry. In 2002, the county had 2,385 farms and ranches covering 441,206 acres, with 61 percent of agricultural income coming from livestock and livestock products. Before 1900, the largest religious groups in Texas were Baptists, Episcopal Methodists, Presbyterians, and Roman Catholics. The first African-American Baptist church to be established in San Antonio celebrates 150 years.
They then built a scrub gazebo where they prayed until a church was built in 1913 in a neighborhood called Baptist Settlement. Today, Baptist Health System is part of Tenet Healthcare Corporation, with more than 100,000 employees and representation in 43 states. It continues to provide quality healthcare services to residents of Bexar County. The Cibolo Creek forms the border between the counties of Bexar and Comal in the north and Guadalupe in the east. Bexar County is bordered to the north by Kendall and Comal Counties, to the east by Guadalupe and Wilson Counties, to the south by Atascosa County, and to the west by Medina and Bandera Counties. Despite steady population growth in the late 1840s, driven by large numbers of immigrants from the Old South and Germany, Bexar County remained a sparsely populated region during the early years of statehood. During World War II, Bexar County's already large military presence grew even more, as the area's bases became an important training center for Army Air Corps cadets.
After 1952, when Republican Dwight Eisenhower defeated Democrat Adlai Stevenson in the area, Bexar County began to have a more republican trend. As a result of attempts to diversify the area's economy during the 1980s and 1990s, San Antonio and Bexar County became home to several electronics and biotechnology companies. With its long history of compassionate care and service, Baptist Health System is an integral part of this vibrant community.
